Do, Live, Seek & Look Good 4.8
DO THE RIGHT THING
Arnold H. Glascow is quoted, “Success is simple: Do what's right, The right way, At the right time.”
“You have only always to do what is right. It will become easier by practice, and you will enjoy in the midst of your trials the pleasure of an approving conscience. That will be worth everything else.”26
Yes, it is easy to say 'Do the Right Thing' but, what does it mean to put it into practice? There are four questions to answer related to 'Do the Right Thing':
1~ Is it Biblically correct?
2~ Do our actions and decisions take us deeper into fulfilling God's purposes for our lives or do they take us further away?
3~ Does it pass the Effective & Enduring Leadership™ test?
4~ Is it fair to everyone involved or affected by the decision or action?
It may be best for Effective and Enduring Leaders to not consider these questions in isolation. I recommend seeking the counsel of the Christian family when considering major life or business decisions. If you do not have a Christian family, then please seek one out to assist with your major decisions. You may also wish to join an Effective & Enduring Leadership Team™ (EEL Team™) as discussed later in this book. Proverbs 1:5 encourages us, “let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance-” Zig Ziglar counsels, “Don't follow a bad shot with a bad decision.” We will all make a bad shot (or decision) from time to time. Zig Ziglar is saying do not follow one bad decision with another. The best way to avoid this is to seek Godly counsel from your Christian family or EEL Team™.
“Whatever you do, Evans, do it right. Be a man. Be a real man.”23 ~ Dr. Tony Evans to himself
Often, Doing the Right Thing may not be an easy decision and may not be popular and may even be painful. “As leaders, doing the right thing for the right reasons might require you to drink the bitter cup in form of ridicule, rejection, and anger. Your human tendency will be to try and avoid the pain. Leading like Jesus (or Effective & Enduring Leadership) will call you to proceed in faith and to trust in God's grace to provide you with the courage to do the right thing and finish the task.”1
