The Lord's Prayer & Effective & Enduring Leadership™ 1.9
I pray the Lord's Prayer every day and I hope you find a daily time to recite the prayer that Jesus modeled for us.
Jesus gave us the Lord's Prayer in Matthew 6:9-13 as a guide or template for effective prayer. The Lord's Prayer also provides us with much insight into the significance of the role Effective & Enduring Leaders™ play in the lives and careers of their people. It actually describes the lifestyle of an E & E Leader™. We will break the Lord's Prayer down into multiple thoughts with Jesus' Words in red.
“Our Father...”
~ Psalm 2:7 says, “I will proclaim the Lord's decree: He said to me, “You are my son; today I have become your father.”
~ John 5:17 says, ““In his defense Jesus said to them, “My father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working.””
~ John 8:42 says, ““Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I have come here from God. I have not come on my own, God sent me.””
~ Philippians 2:11 says, “...and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
~ E & E Leaders understand that they represent a sort of father figure to their people. They should treat this 'trust' with respect and humility and seek to honor God by being a good steward of this 'trust' and pointing their people to the fatherly leadership of our God.
~ Who are the E & E Leader's people? It may be their immediate or extended family, friends, Christian brothers and sisters, athletic teammates, students, and/or people who report to them in their organization (work, community, ministry, or political).
~ E & E Leaders respect their position as a 'father figure' by showing mutual respect and love for their people. Yes, Effective & Enduring Leaders should display a father's love for their people whether the E & E Leader is their biological father or not.
~ E & E Leaders show humility in their position of authority knowing full well that God created all of us equally and, in God's eyes, they are no better than the people they lead. In fact, as discussed earlier in this book, Effective & Enduring Leaders are called to serve their people.
~ E & E Leaders honor God as good stewards of their 'father figure' position by loving and serving their people, leading them with humility and respect.
“...in heaven,...”
~ Matthew 16:19 says, “...I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”
~ Revelation 21:1 says, ““Then I saw "a new heaven and a new earth," for the first heaven and ...
