Preface 1.1
In the United States alone, self improvement is more than a $10 billion industry. We want to save our marriages and have better family relationships. We want to save our jobs and move up the corporate ladder. We want to be better students and have high profile entrances into the work place. We want to be better ministers and grow big churches. We want to contribute to society and get re-elected. We want to have better health and become world-class athletes. There is nothing wrong with desiring to be better people.
We are told and hope that if we read this book or take this class or listen to this audio, we can achieve our goals and dreams. In reality, self improvement is a process and takes time and dedication and it normally involves many books, classes, audios, experiences, and more.
The problem is that there are certain tried and true basic principles that should be a pre-requisite to all self improvement programs. Without these fundamentals pursuing self improvement often leaves us with a sense of emptiness or insignificance, even if we are 'successful'. These essential concepts are found in the Christian Bible.
God calls us all to become Effective & Enduring Leaders during our lives here on earth. Leadership roles will be different for each one of us, but the foundation is the same for all of us. This book introduces Christians to these principles and, by helping us to become more proficient at these fundamentals, we become significantly better parents, workers, bosses, students, politicians, pastors, and so on.
We will find that by becoming more skilled at these essential concepts, we will accomplish many of our life goals and yes, we can make a difference in this world. Some will make a difference just for a few and others will make a difference for many. Each one is valued by God. Becoming more proficient at these fundamentals will give us a decided advantage in pursuit of other self improvement activities with wisdom and discernment we wouldn't have had otherwise.
Go forward with the love and commitment of Christ!
