What On Earth Am I Here For? 1.9
Since the Garden of Eden, I imagine man has asked why he was here?
It is amazing that for centuries we still haven't figured this out. Equally baffling is that I spent the better part of my 60+ years not having a clue. What's even more amazing is that the majority of those years were spent attending various churches and, either I never got the message or it was never communicated well to me in the first place. Yet the message is really quite simple enough that it could and should be taught beginning in kindergarten.
What does this chapter have to do with Effective & Enduring Leadership™? Effective & Enduring Leaders™ cannot be successful unless they understand “What On Earth Am I Here For?”4
IT'S NOT ABOUT YOU
Contrary to our human nature that life is self-serving, Rick Warren says it best; “It's not about you.”4 Wait a minute! It's MY life, how can my life NOT be about me? Warren goes on to say, “The purpose of your life is far greater than your own personal fulfillment, your peace of mind, or even your happiness. It is far greater than your family, your career, or even your wildest dreams and ambitions. If you want to know why you were placed on this planet, you must begin with God. You were born by his purpose and for his purpose.”4 Colossians 1:16 says; “For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, ... all things have been created through him and for him.” God created the universe and earth and man and everything has its origin in Him. Mankind is God's most valued creation and He has definitive purposes for us to fulfill during our temporary time on His earth. Jeremiah 29:11 tells us that God has purposes for us, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” I don't know about you, but I like plans that are designed to prosper me and not harm me and plans that give me hope and a future.
“The thing that drives us to get up, & keep on living, to try again, to persevere, to fight the good fight, is hope.”16
